State Police Command

A state police command was an organizational unit of the federal police in Austria . The state police commanders were directly subordinate to the Federal Ministry of the Interior in matters relating to the internal service (Section 10 (2) SPG). They had their seat in the respective state capital and carried the designation: "Landespolizeikommando für ..." with the addition of the name of the federal state for which it was set up. The district police commanders and city ​​police commanders and their police departments were subordinate to this. A state police command was headed by the state police commander, a high-ranking E1 officer.

A staff department (StA) and the controlling department (CS) were attached to the state police commander and his deputy . The departments in the LKP were an organization and operations department (OEA), a state traffic department ( LVA), a state criminal investigation department (LKA), a personnel department (PA) and a logistics department (LA). In July 2011, Interior Minister Mikl-Leitner announced that a department for border and alien police measures would also be set up in each LPK .

According to the Security Police Act , the State Police Command had the following tasks:

Internal service affairs, in particular

  1. the definition and establishment of departments and organizational units, their systemization including the performance-oriented control of the executive service,
  2. the organization and management of the general patrol and surveillance service,
  3. On the basis of official orders or other assigned tasks, the implementation of priority and special operations as well as other monitoring measures,
  4. determining the length of service,
  5. participation in training and further education,
  6. personnel and employment law matters and
  7. budget, logistics and infrastructure matters

are taken care of by the state police officers who are directly subordinate to the Federal Minister of the Interior.

Historical

The state police command posts were after the merger of federal police , federal safety guard corps and detective corps established to federal police as the successor organizations of the pre-existing national Gendarmerie Commands and the General Inspectorate of the security guard (in Vienna). They were the highest-ranking organizational units of the federal police guard , as a federal police command or police central command (analogous to the formerly existing gendarmerie central command ) was not set up in the Ministry of the Interior.
