Josef Dittli (born April 11, 1957 in Attinghausen , entitled to live there ) is a Swiss politician ( FDP ).

biography

Josef Dittli was an elementary school teacher from 1978 to 1985 . He then began training at the military academy at ETH Zurich . After completing his training, he worked for 19 years in various functions as a professional officer in the Swiss Army . In 2000 he completed the Senior Course in Security Policy at the NATO Defense College in Rome . In the degree of a general staff colonel, he was then, among other things, commander of the leadership course II and most recently commander of the tactical training center in the higher cadre training of the Swiss Army in Kriens .

Dittli has chaired the Curafutura health insurance association since January 1, 2018, as the successor to Ignazio Cassis, who was elected to the Federal Council . In an interview with the NZZ, Dittli protested against allegations that, as a health politician, he had "let himself be bought" by health insurers and defended his wages of 140,000 Swiss francs for the 40 percent position as "appropriate".

Dittli is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of Swisslos , a member of the Sport Toto Society and President of the Association of the Shipping Industry VAP. He is also president of the vested benefits foundation of Liberty Vorsorge AG and the 3a pension foundation as well as a member of other foundations.

Dittli is married and has two children.

Municipal and cantonal level

Dittli was the founding president of the local party of the Free Democratic Party of Attinghausen. From 1988 to 2002 he was a local councilor in Attinghausen , and from 1999 to 2002 he was mayor . He was also Vice President of the FDP Uri from 1992 to 1995 . On March 21, 2004, Dittli was elected to the government council by the people of Uri , where he was Director of Security from June 1, 2004 to the end of July 2010 and as Director of Finance from August 1, 2010 to the end of May 2016. From June 1, 2012 to May 31, 2014 he was also Mayor of the Canton of Uri.

As Finance Director of the Canton of Uri, Dittli was a member of the Conference of Finance Directors, Board of Directors of Kraftwerk Göschenen AG and Board of Directors of the Swiss Saltworks. From 2010 to 2016 he was President of the Uri Pension Fund. As security director, he worked intercantonally as president of the conference of military and civil protection directors, president of the conference of cantonal forest directors, president of the central Swiss police directors' conference, board member of the Swiss fire brigade coordination, board member of the specialist directors' conference for lotteries of the cantons and member of the conference of the cantonal judiciary and police directors' conference. In addition, Josef Dittli was also head of the “Population and Civil Protection Strategy 2015+” project on behalf of Federal Councilor Ueli Maurer .

Dittli gained particular public attention by recruiting the Egyptian entrepreneur Samih Sawiris for a tourist resort in Andermatt . He also drew attention from the August 1st celebrations on the Rütli , which were repeatedly disturbed by right-wing extremists until 2005 . As the governing councilor responsible for security, he managed to keep the right-wing extremist scene away from the celebrations from 2006 onwards. On May 31, 2016, Josef Dittli resigned from the government council of the canton of Uri.

National level

In the Swiss parliamentary elections in 2015 , Josef Dittli was elected to the Council of States . There he was a member of the Foreign Affairs Commission from 2015 to 2016, currently he is a member of the Commission for Social Security and Health, the delegation to the parliamentary assembly of the North Atlantic Defense Alliance ( NATO ), the Commission for Transport and Telecommunications, the Security Policy Commission (as President ) and the delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (as Vice-President).

Dittli is a member of the Security and Defense Technology Working Group (asuw), which advocates the interests of the defense industry. In September 2018, he spoke out in favor of a relaxation of the War Material Ordinance and advocated expanding war material exports to countries that are in an internal conflict.

In September 2019, Dittli asked the Federal Council to examine whether backdoors to end-to-end encrypted chats and phone calls using WhatsApp , Telegram and Threema make sense for Switzerland.

Further mandates

Dittli also took on civil society functions in the field of sport and culture, for example as OC President of the Central Switzerland Wrestling Festival 2010, the Urner Cantonal Shooting Festival 2011, local organizing committees of the Tour de Suisse , the Swiss Folk Music Festival Altdorf in May 2016 and the Folk Music Festival Altdorf 2018 and 2020. He was also president of the Swiss Path Foundation for 12 years and is a board member of the Haus der Volksmusik Altdorf association.
