Swisslos is the Swiss lottery company for the cantons of German-speaking Switzerland and the canton of Ticino . It was founded in 1937 and is organized in the form of a cooperative based in Basel . On behalf of these twenty cantons and the Principality of Liechtenstein, Swisslos offers number lottery tickets, sports betting and a whole range of tickets.

Use of funds

The amounts not paid out to lottery winners flow mainly into the cantonal lottery funds and are largely used for charitable projects in the fields of culture, nature and social affairs. A smaller portion goes directly to the cantonal sports (tote) funds, where they are available for non-profit sports projects.

In 2013, Swisslos achieved a net profit of 365 million Swiss francs from lottery numbers and the sale of tickets, of which 337 million francs were passed on to the cantonal lottery funds and 28 million francs via the sports toto company of Swiss Olympic , Swiss football, ice hockey and Sporthilfe.

The legality of the increase in these direct distributions from Swisslos to the Sport-Toto-Gesellschaft is controversial (from 2017 around 44 million francs annually instead of around 28 million francs annually as before).

Lottos and tickets

Swisslos sells a wide variety of lottery products; the number lotteries Swiss Lotto and Euro Millions are probably among the best-known products. The Totogoal and Sporttip products deal with sports betting. Furthermore, various scratch cards such as Happy Day, Win for Life, Million Ticket, etc. can be purchased and played at the points of sale. In addition to the two number lotteries and tickets, bingo and jass can also be played online .
