Swiss way

Weg der Schweiz is the name of hiking route 99 along Lake Uri (southern part of Lake Lucerne ). The path was laid out in 1991 for the 700th anniversary of Switzerland . The path begins at Rütli and ends in Brunnen SZ , is 35 km long and was designed by all of the Swiss cantons . Each of the cantons was entrusted with a section of the route marked by boundary stones , the length of which was based on the number of its inhabitants at 5 millimeters per person. In the order mentioned, the route begins with the original Swiss cantons of Uri , Schwyz and Unterwalden and ends with the canton of Jura , which was only founded in 1979 , whereby the order is determined by formal accession to the Confederation. It ends in Brunnen SZ on the “Place of the Swiss Abroad .

The path can be walked in both directions, the total hiking time is a good eleven hours. The path is well developed and secured against falling rocks at critical points with railings and nets and tunnels. In dry weather, the path can be walked on with sneakers without any problems, the route Bauen - Flüelen is even wheelchair or pram-accessible ( Bauen - Seedorf often hard surface ). In snow or rain, trekking shoes are recommended at least on the Fluelen-Sisikon route because of the steep, gravelly stretches. All stage locations can be reached by train or boat, and there are hotels for overnight stays at all stage locations except for the Tell Chapel .

The approach to the Rütli ( 482  m above sea level ) takes place by ship. A gravel path without steps leads uphill through the forest to Seelisberg (801 m). From there it goes south to the terrace of Seelisberg with a view, then a steep descent follows on an old mule track with 850 steps down to Bauen. The route from Bauen via Isleten to Flüelen leads directly along Lake Uri and is wheelchair accessible. From Flüelen to the Tell Chapel, it basically goes along the lakeshore, but with a bit of up and down to avoid rocks and an ascent and descent to the old Axenstrasse with a vertical view down to the lake. From the Tell Chapel you walk along the Bundesrat-Hürlimann -Weg from 1983, with another detour to Axenstrasse up to the so-called Urnerloch in Sisikon. After Sisikon there is a steep ascent and then a flat path on the terrace of Morschach with a view of the Rütli, Rigi and Lake Lucerne, which is followed by a gentle descent to Brunnen.
