City Police Command
Stadtpolizeikommanden (SPK) are in Austria 27 organizational units of the federal police subordinate to one of the nine regional police departments . They exist in Vienna and in most of the statutory cities (= cities that act as district administrative authorities , analogous to the district administration ); here the respective state police directorate (LPD) - partly represented by its branch police commissioner - acts as the security authority of the 1st instance and carries out the service and technical supervision of the respective city police command. Subordinate to this are the existing police stations in the respective city . A city police command is headed by the respective city police commander, a senior executive officer .
There is always a city police detachment
- in seven out of eight provincial capitals where the respective provincial police headquarters are based: Eisenstadt , Graz , Innsbruck , Klagenfurt , Linz , Salzburg and St. Pölten (except for the provincial police directorate Vorarlberg in Bregenz , which is not a statutory town);
- among the 14 Viennese police commissioners of the federal capital, which are subordinate to the Vienna State Police Directorate;
- among the six police commissioners in Leoben , Schwechat , Steyr , Wels , Villach and Wiener Neustadt .
The local area of activity extends to the area of the respective municipality, with two exceptions: The SPK Eisenstadt is also responsible for the area of the Freistadt ( statutory city ) Rust , the SPK Schwechat also for the parts of the Vienna-Schwechat airport located outside the municipality of Schwechat . The statutory cities Krems and Waidhofen an der Ybbs are safety authorities not managed by the State Police a police station and hence have no Stadtpolizeikommando.
Organizational measures in the area of city police commandos are incumbent on the state police director in agreement with the state governor , insofar as their object is to entrust or dismiss the head of a city police command or to transfer them without changing the legal position.

Historical
The City Police Commands are the direct successor organizations of the former Central Inspectorate of the Federal Security Guard Corps . They were after the merger of federal police , federal safety guard corps and detective corps formed in July of 2005. Only in Vienna was the regional police command considered the successor organization to the former highest organizational unit of the security guard, which was called the General Inspectorate here .
