Francis Burt (composer)

Francis Burt (born April 28, 1926 in London , † October 3, 2012 in Hartberg ) was a British composer.

Life

Burt completed after attending St. Edward's School in Oxford (1944 to 1945) as part of an officer training course as an engineer at Cambridge University and served from 1946 to 1947 as a first lieutenant in Nigeria . He then studied at the Royal Academy of Music until 1951 , where he became a composition student of Howard Ferguson . He also attended the Summer School of Music in Bryanston and Dartington. He then studied composition with Boris Blacher at the Berlin Music Academy .

Burt lived in Vienna from 1956 . From 1973 until his retirement in 1992, Burt was professor of composition at the Vienna University of Music , where he also headed the Institute for Electroacoustics from 1989 to 1991. He was buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery .
