Mairie Autechaux-Roide |
Autechaux-Roide is a French municipality with 523 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Doubs department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Autechaux-Roide is located at 496 m, about 13 kilometers south of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends in the northern Jura , on a ledge above the Roide valley north of the Lomont range and east of the Doube valley .
The area of the 6.56 km² large municipality covers a section of the northern French Jura. The northern part of the area is occupied by the promontory of Autechaux and the gently undulating Tafeljura plateau consisting of Sequan and Kimmeridge limestone. The latter is at an average of 560 m and consists mainly of arable and meadow land. At 575 m, the highest point in Autechaux-Roide is reached at Écurcey. The eastern boundary is on the edge of the Blamont plateau.
In the south, the area includes the Roide valley, which is about 150 m deep into the surrounding plateau . The stream rises below the Autechaux promontory and drains the area west to the Doubs. Its slopes are subdivided , especially on the south side, by various erosion channels, including the Combe des Eaux (western border), the Combe du Paigre , the Combe du Girardot and the Combe Jorbey . The valley slopes are predominantly forested and in various places criss-crossed by limestone bands. The southern border runs along the northern slope of the Lomont range.
In addition to the actual location, the settlements also belong to Autechaux-Roide:
- Roide (380 m) in the valley of the Roide
- La Crochère (392 m) in the Roide valley
Neighboring communities of Autechaux-Roide are Écurcey in the north, Roches-lès-Blamont and Blamont in the east, Pierrefontaine-lès-Blamont in the south and Pont-de-Roide-Vermondans in the west.
history
Since the Middle Ages, the main part of Autechaux has belonged to the Blamont domain (owned by the lords of Neuchâtel ), while the rest of the part was under the sovereignty of the Counts of Montbéliard. After the entire village came under the sovereignty of these counts in 1506, the Reformation was introduced and the village church in Autechaux above, under the patronage of Saint-Ferréol et Saint-Ferjeux, became Lutheran in 1541. The church was repaired in 1615.
As part of the Blamont dominion, which formed one of the four dominions of the Principality of Württemberg-Mömpelgard (Montbéliard) and was annexed by France in 1699, Autechaux finally came to France by contract in 1748. In 1700 the French government ordered the Simultaneum , according to which the Lutheran congregation had to leave the choir of their church to the Catholics for their masses. The Simultaneum ended in 1792 after the Lutherans were recognized by the Republic. To avoid confusion with other communities of the same name, Autechaux was officially renamed Autechaux-Roide in 1922. Today the village is part of the Pays de Montbéliard Agglomération municipal association .
Attractions
The Lutheran village church in the Autechaux above (Église luthérienne, Temple luthérien) dates from the pre-Reformation period and was thoroughly restored in 1772 and last in 1834. The church has two bells. The small one was cast by Hans Ulrich Rodt and Jacob Rodt in Basel in 1667 , the large one was created by father and son JC Bournez and PA Bournez in 1840. From 1862 to 1867, the Saint-Ferréol et Saint-Fergeux church was built for the local Catholics.

With 523 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Autechaux-Roide is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range between 220 and 260 people, there was significant population growth from 1970 to 1982. Since then, the number of inhabitants has remained almost constant.
Economy and Infrastructure
For a long time, Autechaux was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). Since the beginning of the 19th century, the Roide's water power has been used by several mills and a sawmill. Today, various companies are based in the Roide Valley, particularly in the roller shutter, décolletage and civil engineering sectors. There are also some local small businesses. Many workers are also commuters who work in the Montbéliard agglomeration.
The village is off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Pont-de-Roide-Vermondans to Hérimoncourt . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around 13 kilometers away. Other road connections exist with Écurcey and Pierrefontaine-lès-Blamont.
