Mairie Les Écorces |
Les Écorces is a French municipality with 718 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Les Écorces is located at 900 m , four kilometers south of Maîche and about 13 kilometers north of the city of La Chaux-de-Fonds (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , on a hill in the middle of the wide high plateau of Maîche.
The area of the 9.51 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The entire area is taken up by the low relief high plateau of Maîche, which averages 880 m. It is predominantly made up of meadow and pasture land, but also has some larger forest areas, especially the Grand Bois in the southwest. The plateau does not show any surface watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. There are also several sinkholes on the parish grounds . At 921 m, the highest point of Les Écorces is reached on a hill in the Grand Bois.
In addition to the actual village, Les Écorces also includes various hamlets and numerous individual farms, including:
- Les Fourneaux ( 857 m ) in a hollow on the plateau on the eastern edge of the Grand Bois
- Emaubourbet ( 874 m ) on a hill on the Maîche plateau
- La Motte ( 901 m ) at the height on the edge of the Grand Bois
- Les Maisons lingerie ( 877 m ) on the Maîche plateau
Neighboring municipalities to Les Écorces are Maîche in the north, Charquemont in the east, Fournet-Blancheroche in the south and Frambouhans in the west.
history
In the Middle Ages, Les Écorces belonged to the Maîche rule. The first houses were grouped around a chapel that belonged to the church of Maîche. The place name suggests that the houses were covered with bark (French écorces ) from fir and spruce trees. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.
Attractions
The village church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste in Les Écorces was built in 1881 in the neo-Gothic style and has a 47.5 meter high bell tower. The Saint-Roch chapel, which was built in 1868, is in the open field southeast of the village.
