Nissans is a French municipality with 238 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Issans is located at 335  m , about six kilometers west-northwest of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends west of the basin of Montbéliard and north of the Doubstal , in the valley of the Rupt, surrounded by the heights of the Grand Bois.

The area of the 2.72 km² municipal area covers a section of the undulating landscape north of the Doube valley. The central part of the area is taken up by the Rupt valley low , which receives the tributary of a right side stream north of the village and ensures drainage to the southeast to the Allan and thus to the Doubs. The valley is flanked by predominantly wooded heights: in the south by the Grand Bois (up to 420 m), in the west by the plateau of Saint-Julien ( 400  m ) and in the north-east by another height called Grand Bois , at 432 m the highest elevation is reached by Issans.

Neighboring municipalities of Issans are Raynans and Montbéliard in the north, Allondans in the east, Dung in the south and Saint-Julien-lès-Montbéliard in the west.

history

Since the Middle Ages, Issans belonged to the domain of the Counts of Montbéliard. With the annexation of the county of Württemberg-Mömpelgard (Montbéliard) , the village finally came into French hands in 1793. Today Issans is part of the Pays de Montbéliard Agglomération municipal association .

With 238 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Issans is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range between 70 and 110 people, a striking population growth was recorded from 1968 to 1982. Since then, only minor fluctuations have been observed.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Issans was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the Montbéliard agglomeration.

The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Montbéliard to Aibre . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around nine kilometers away. Other road connections exist with Raynans and Saint-Julien-lès-Montbéliard.
