Saint-Georges-Armont is a French municipality with 120 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Doubs department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Saint-Georges-Armont is located at 419 m , about 22 kilometers southwest of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends in a panoramic location on the northern slope of the Côte d'Armont, one of the extreme north-western mountain ranges of the Jura , around 140 m above the Doubs valley .
The area of the 4.74 km² municipal area includes a section of the Doubstal. The northern border runs along the Doubs, which flows here with several bends through a flat valley low about one kilometer wide and is accompanied by the waterway of the Rhine-Rhône Canal . From the course of the river, the community area extends southwards over the floodplain and an approximately 100 m high step onto the terrace of Saint-Georges-Armont. This is dominated in the south by the wooded ridge of the Côte d'Armont, on which the highest elevation of Saint-Georges-Armont is reached at 550 m. The northern slope of this ridge is subdivided by various erosion channels.
Neighboring municipalities to Saint-Georges-Armont are Pompierre-sur-Doubs in the north, Rang in the east, Anteuil in the south and Pays de Clerval with Clerval in the west.
history
In the Middle Ages, Saint-Georges was part of the Neuchâtel rule. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. To avoid confusion with other communities of the same name, Saint-Georges was officially renamed Saint-Georges-Armont in 1923.
Attractions
The Saint-Georges church was built in 1734 in the classical style.

With 120 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Saint-Georges-Armont is one of the smallest municipalities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (162 people were still counted in 1886), population growth has been recorded again since the beginning of the 1970s. Since then the population has almost doubled.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Saint-Georges-Armont was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.
The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Rang to Anteuil. The nearest connection to the A36 motorway , which crosses the municipality, is about eight kilometers away. Another road connection is with Clerval.
