Mairie Presentevillers |
Présentevillers is a French municipality with 455 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Présentevillers is located at 330 m , about five kilometers west of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends in a valley between the heights of Mont Bart in the south and Grand Bois in the north, north of the Doube valley .
The area of the 3.83 km² municipal area covers a section of the gently undulating landscape north of the Doube valley. The central part of the area is occupied by the Présentevillers depression, which is an average of 350 m. It has a width of a little more than a kilometer and a length of about three kilometers and consists mainly of arable and meadow land. A stream rises near the village and drains the area to the east through a narrow valley to the Rupt . The valley of Présentevillers is flanked in the south by the elongated forest heights of the Forêt du Mont Bart , on which the highest point in the municipality is reached at 448 m. In the east the border runs over the heights of the Bois de Miémont ( 403 m ), in the north over the ridge of the Grand Bois (also Bois de la Côte ; 440 m). To the west, the hollow opens to the Arcey plateau.
Neighboring communities of Présentevillers are Saint-Julien-lès-Montbéliard in the north, Dung and Bart in the east, Bavans in the south and Sainte-Marie in the west.
history
Graves from the Burgundy and Merovingian periods indicate an early settlement in the Présentevillers municipality. The first written mention of the place took place in 1147 under the name Pisenteyvillari . Over time, the spelling changed from Presenteviller (12th century), Pesenteveler (1291) and Presantevillers (1593) to Presentevillers (in the 17th century).
Since the Middle Ages, Présentevillers formed its own rule, which was under the sovereignty of the Counts of Montbéliard. Before the Reformation there was a Benedictine priory in the village. Présentevillers was plundered and set on fire in 1588 when the Guises invaded and in 1635 during the Thirty Years' War . With the annexation of the county of Montbéliard , the village finally came into French hands in 1793.
Attractions
The present Lutheran church of Présentevillers (Temple luthérien) was built in 1852 with red sandstone from the Vosges. It was replaced by a previous building from 1769, one of the twenty churches in the county that were rebuilt or renovated on behalf of Karl Eugen during his long reign. Other attractions in the village include the Fontaine- Lavoir (1822) and the Mairie , which was built in 1837.

With 455 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Présentevillers is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range between 170 and 230 people, there was significant population growth from 1960 to 1982. Since then, the number of inhabitants has remained almost constant.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Présentevillers was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the Montbéliard agglomeration.
The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Bart to Arcey . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around nine kilometers away. Other road connections exist with Dung and Bavans.
