Mairie Hyémondans |
Hyémondans is a French municipality with 201 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Hyémondans is located at 428 m , about 18 kilometers southwest of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends in a wide valley basin in the northern French Jura at the northern foot of the Lomont range , south of the Doube valley .
The area of the 6.87 km² municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the Hyémondans basin, which has a width of around 1.5 km and a length of 3 km. It is drained by the Ruisseau de Sourans north to the Ruisseau du Bié and thus to the Doubs. The valley basin is cut up to 150 m into the surrounding heights, which form a tabular Jura-like plateau at the northern foot of the Lomont chain. It has very steep, mostly wooded slopes, which are crowned at the upper edge in various places by a resistant limestone band. In the east, the border runs mostly above the steep drop on the edge of the high plateau of Goux-lès-Dambelin (up to 560 m). To the southeast, a saddle ( 480 m ) leads over to the catchment area of the Ranceuse . The western boundary is also on the edge of the adjacent heights of Lanthenans and Tournedoz. The southern end of the valley is marked by the steep slope of the Montagne du Lomont. From a geological and tectonic point of view, it forms an anticline of the Jura folds and is oriented towards west-east in accordance with the direction of strike of the mountains in this region. At 821 m, the highest point of Hyémondans is reached on the ridge of the Lomont.
The hamlet of La Cude ( 461 m ) in the southern part of the valley basin at the foot of the Lomont is part of Hyémondans . Neighboring municipalities of Hyémondans are Sourans in the north, Goux-lès-Dambelin and Dambelin in the east, Vyt-lès-Belvoir in the south and Anteuil and Lanthenans in the west.
Attractions
The Hyémondans Chapel was built in 1881. Instead of the chapel, the Mairie (town hall) has a bell tower.

With 201 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Hyémondans is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range between 150 and 170 people, a decrease in population was recorded in the following period, which has been followed by slight growth since the beginning of the 1980s and a significant increase after the turn of the millennium.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Hyémondans was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.
The village is off the main thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from L'Isle-sur-le-Doubs to La Cude. The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around eleven kilometers away. Another road connection is with Lanthenans.
