Mairie Beutal

Beutal is a French municipality with 277 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Beutal is located at 335  m , about 13 kilometers west-southwest of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends in a valley north of the Doubs valley , in the hilly country that extends between the valleys of Doubs and Ognon.

The area of the 5.78 km² municipal area includes a section north of the Doubstal. The central part of the area is occupied by a valley depression, which, however, does not show any surface flowing water because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. This valley basin is flanked to the west by the height of the Bois de la Chaille ( 425  m ). To the northeast, the community area extends over the valleys of Beutal and Bretigney to the adjacent plateaus of the limestone plateau, which are on average 400 m. They are partly made up of meadow and arable land, partly of forest. At 469 m, the highest point in Beutal is reached on Mont Truchot .

The hamlet of La Guinguette ( 350  m ) in the valley east of Mont de Bellevoie belongs to Beutal. The neighboring communities of Beutal are Bretigney and Montenois in the north, Lougres in the east, Longevelle-sur-Doubs and La Prétière in the south, and Médière and Faimbe in the west.

history

Beutal is mentioned for the first time in 1196 in the form of Bustal (1206 Buschtal ) as the property of the Saint-Maimboeuf church in Montbéliard. The Châtelot lordship and other lords also owned land in the municipality; however, the main part of the village has belonged to the Counts of Mömpelgard (Montbéliard) since the Middle Ages, who introduced the Reformation in 1565 , making the village church from the 15th century Lutheran. With the occupation of the county of Württemberg-Mömpelgard (Montbéliard) , Beutal finally came into French hands in 1793. Today the village is part of the Pays de Montbéliard Agglomération municipal association .

Lutheran Church

Attractions

The Lutheran Church of Beutal (Temple luthérien) was largely rebuilt and larger in place of the old village church in 1768. The original wooden separate belfry was replaced in 1828 by the tower with the dome (clocher comtois), which is so typical in Franche-Comté.

With 277 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Beutal is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (232 people were still counted in 1886), the population continued to grow steadily from 1960 to 1980.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Beutal was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the main thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Longevelle-sur-Doubs to Onans. The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around 14 kilometers away. Another road connection exists with Bretigney.
