Mairie Onans

Onan is a French municipality with 349 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Onans is located at 363  m , seven kilometers north-northeast of L'Isle-sur-le-Doubs and about 14 kilometers west of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends in the valley of the Ruisseau d'Onans in the hilly landscape north of the Doube valley , at the eastern foot of the Mont de Pierre Trouée.

The area of the 14.21 km² municipal area covers a section of the hilly landscape north of the Doube valley. The area is crossed from north to south by the valley basin of the Ruisseau d'Onans . The brook seeps away south of the village. This valley basin is flanked in the west by the ridge of Mont de Pierre Trouée ( 469  m ). The community soil extends further to the southwest over the Geney basin to the Mont du Bois des Roches ( 463  m ) and the Mont de Bellevoie ( 459  m ). To the east of Onans, the municipal area extends to the plateaus of Bois de la Craie , Bois des Tronchots , La Broche and Les Chauselles . The highest point of Onans is reached here at 481 m. The whole area shows a loose structure of arable and meadow land as well as forest. With the exception of the Ruisseau d'Onans, there is no surface running water because the rainwater seeps into the karst subsoil of the limestone plateau.

Neighboring communities of Onans are Marvelise and Gémonval in the north, Arcey , Montenois and Faimbe in the east, Médière and Étrappe in the south and Geney and Courchaton in the west.

With 349 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Onans is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (437 people were still counted in 1886), population growth has been recorded again since the mid-1970s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Onans was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Longevelle-sur-Doubs to Crevans . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around 15 kilometers away. Further road connections exist with Geney and Arcey.
