history

Bondeval was first mentioned in a document in 1196 in a bull by Pope Celestine III. under the name Bollonval . Since the Middle Ages, the village has belonged to the Blamont dominion, which was under the sovereignty of the Counts of Montbéliard. In 1282 the Blamont de Montbéliard lordship passed into the possession of the lords of Neuchâtel . After Bondeval came under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard again in 1506, the Reformation was introduced in 1541 . As part of the Blamont rule, which formed one of the four dominions of the Principality of Württemberg-Mömpelgard (Montbéliard) and was annexed by France in 1699, Bondeval finally came to France by contract in 1748. Today Bondeval is part of the Pays de Montbéliard Agglomération municipal association .

With 472 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Bondeval is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range between 300 and 375 people, a slow but continuous population growth has been recorded since the beginning of the 1960s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Bondeval was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, however, the village has mainly changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the Montbéliard agglomeration.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Audincourt to Blamont . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around eight kilometers away. Another road connection is with Seloncourt.
