Crosey-le-Petit is a French commune with a population of 135 (as at 1st January 2017) in the Doubs department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Crosey-le-Petit is 515  m above sea level, ten kilometers northwest of Sancey-le-Grand and about 30 kilometers southwest of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , in a panoramic position on a high plateau at the southern foot of the Lomont chain , south of the Doube valley .

The area of the municipality of 9.60 km² covers a section of the French Jura. The central part of the area is taken up by the Crosey Plateau, which lies at an average of 500 m and slopes slightly to the south. This area is mainly made up of arable and meadow land, but also shows some larger forest areas, including the Bois des Grandes Planches . The high plateau is subdivided by several dry valleys . These run south and flow into a valley furrow, which topographically belongs to the catchment area of the Cusancin , but has no above-ground running water because the rainwater seeps into the karst subsoil. The valley cut, accompanied by steep slopes, creates the connection between the basin of Sancey and the Cusancin. It marks the southern municipal boundary.

To the north, the community area extends to the ridge of the Lomont chain. From a geological and tectonic point of view, this ridge forms an anticline of the Jura folds and is oriented in a west-east direction in accordance with the direction of strike of the mountains in this region. It separates the Crosey plateau from the Doubstal to the north. At 578 m, the highest point of Crosey-le-Petit is reached on the hill north of the village.

Neighboring municipalities of Crosey-le-Petit are Roche-lès-Clerval and Chaux-lès-Clerval in the north, Crosey-le-Grand in the east, Vellevans and Servin in the south and Cusance and Lomont-sur-Crête in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages, Crosey-le-Petit was part of the Crosey-le-Grand dominion. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Crosey-le-Petit was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Baume-les-Dames to Crosey-le-Grand. Another road connection is with Clerval .
