Jindřich Svoboda (born September 14, 1952 in Adamov u Brna ) is a former Czech football player . The striker won gold with the Czechoslovak team at the 1980 Summer Olympics in the USSR . In the final against the GDR team, he scored the golden goal.

Club career

Svoboda played for Spartak ADAST Adamov in his youth, at the age of 19 he moved to Brno to do his military service with the local army team Dukla . After two years he moved to Zbrojovka Brno within the city . There he won the Czechoslovak Championship in 1978. He left Brno in 1984 and played in the second division with TJ Gottwaldov until 1986 . He continued his career until 1994 with smaller foreign clubs, until 1996 he played for Sokol Prace.

National team

Svoboda played two games for Czechoslovakia , the first on April 30, 1975, the ČSSR won the European Championship qualifier in Prague's Letná Stadium against Portugal with 5-0, Svoboda came on in the 76th minute for Zdeněk Koubek . In his second international match, a goalless draw against Austria at the Bazaly stadium in Ostrava on July 1, 1977, he was in the starting line-up, after 58 minutes he was replaced by Karol Dobiaš .

Olympic victory

At the 1980 Summer Olympics in the Soviet Union, Svoboda was only a replacement in the Czechoslovak team. In the final against the GDR there were still no goals after 73 minutes played when the Czechoslovak coach František Havránek took Ladislav Vízek , who had scored half of all Czechoslovak goals, off the field and replaced him with Jindřich Svoboda. Svoboda was on the pitch for four minutes when he scored the all-important goal that marked the ČSSR's Olympic victory.
