František Havránek (born July 11, 1923 in Bratislava ; † March 26, 2011 ) was a Czechoslovak football player and coach.
Player career
Havránek grew up near the High Tatras before the family moved to Sadská in 1939 after the division of Czechoslovakia . There he ran for the AFK Sadská until the end of the Second World War .
In the 1946/47 season he completed two first division games as a midfielder for SK Židenice . For the next season Havránek moved to Aston Villa Mladá Boleslav , which was then in the Divize českého venkova - sk. východ , one of five seasons of the second highest class, played. Havránek played for Kolora Liberec (formerly Rapid) - initially as a goalkeeper and later as a defender - from 1949 to 1950, the season had meanwhile been changed from the autumn / spring system to the calendar year . Rapid succeeded in 1949 promotion from the 1st A třída , the fourth highest division in Czechoslovakia, in the Divize, which in 1950, Rapid was now called Kolora, was the third highest division.
As early as 1951 Havránek changed the club again and joined Slavoj Liberec , which was only founded in 1949 . This initially played lower class, but was administratively divided into the 1st league ( Přebor republiky ) for the 1953 season . Havránek played all 13 first division games in this one-round season. The defender could not prevent the descent of his team.
For the 1954 season Havránek joined the second division Jiskra Jablonec nad Nisou , for which he was active until 1956. He let his active career end in the season 1957/58 as a player-coach with Jiskra Mimoň . In Mimoň he worked as a trainer in the 1st A třída until 1960 .
Coaching career
From 1961 Havránek studied sport in Prague, where he graduated in 1964. He then worked as a trainer in Czechoslovakia. First he took over the then second division side Spartak Hradec Králové , with whom he rose to the first division. He then went to Slavia Prague in 1966 , before starting his first foreign engagement in 1970 at the Cypriot club EPA Larnaka . On his return he coached Zbrojovka Brno , for whom he had already played as a player under the name SK Židenice, and the Polish club Ruch Chorzów .
At the end of the 1970s Havránek entered the service of the regional association . For this he was in charge of the Olympic team at the 1980 Summer Olympics, which was marked by the boycott of several western countries . With a 1-0 final win over the GDR Olympic team, he won the gold medal with Czechoslovakia. A little later, he officially took over the senior national team, but with it clearly missed qualifying for the European championship final round in 1984 behind Romania and Sweden . Then Josef Masopust took over the coaching position, Havránek went back to Cyprus as coach of AEL Limassol . At the age of 63 he ended his coaching career there.
In 2007 Havránek settled in Prague, where he devoted himself to the hobby of gardening. He died in the spring of 2011 at the age of 87.
