Mairie Roches-lès-Blamont

Roches-lès-Blamont is a French municipality with 632 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Roches-lès-Blamont lies at 549  m , about twelve kilometers south of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends in the northern Jura , on the edge of the plateau of the Table Jura north of the Lomont chain above the valley cut of the Combe de Vau.

The area of the 5.44 km² large municipality covers a section of the northern French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the slightly undulating Tafeljura plateau consisting of Sequan and Kimmeridge limestone, which averages 540 m. At 573 m, the highest point in Roches-lès-Blamont is reached on the hill north of the village. The high plateau is predominantly made up of arable and meadow land. There are no surface rivers here because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. The western border runs above the slope that leads to the valley system of the Combe de Noye .

The eastern part of the municipality includes the valley of the Combe de Vau, cut more than 100 m deep into the plateaus, and its short side valleys. Below Roches-lès-Blamont, the steep slope is crowned by a resistant rock band that gave the place its name. The Combe is drained east to the Gland . The valley section is flanked in the south by the Bois de Châtel and in the north by the Bois de la Lochière . To the northeast, the municipality extends into the forest area of Sévralon , where another side valley of the Gland begins.

In addition to the actual village, Roches-lès-Blamont has several hamlets and individual farms:

  • Champs Vanny ( 558  m ) on the Blamont plateau
  • Es Combe Benoit ( 550  m ) on the Blamont plateau

Neighboring municipalities of Roches-lès-Blamont are Bondeval and Thulay in the north, Hérimoncourt , Meslières and Glay in the east, Blamont in the south and Autechaux-Roide and Écurcey in the west.

history

The municipality of Roches-lès-Blamont was inhabited very early. During excavations, traces of a settlement area were found that were used from the Middle Neolithic to the Early Bronze Age .

Lutheran Church

Roches was first mentioned in 1040, when the Archbishop of Besançon left 14 churches in the Ajoie region to the Baume-les-Dames Abbey. Since the Middle Ages, Roches formed its own lordship, which came to Blamont towards the end of the 13th century. The local noble family died out in 1474. After the village had come under the sovereignty of the Counts of Württemberg-Mömpelgard (Montbéliard) in 1506, the Reformation was introduced in 1540 . As part of the Blamont reign, which formed one of the four dominions of the Principality of Montbéliard and was annexed by France in 1699, Roches finally came under contract to France in 1748. In order to avoid confusion with other communities of the same name, Roches was officially renamed Roches-lès-Blamont in 1961. Today the village belongs to the municipality of the Pays de Montbéliard Agglomération .

Attractions

The Lutheran Church of Roches-lès-Blamont was built in the 19th century. Various farmhouses in the characteristic Franche-Comté style from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved in the old town center.

With 632 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Roches-lès-Blamont is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (408 people were still counted in 1901), there has been a marked increase in population since the early 1970s. Since then the number of inhabitants has more than doubled.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Roches-lès-Blamont was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has turned into a residential community thanks to its attractive location. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the Montbéliard agglomeration.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Audincourt to Blamont. The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around 13 kilometers away. There are other road links with Hérimoncourt, Meslières and Autechaux-Roide.
