Mairie Faimbe

Faimbe is a French municipality with 107 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Faimbe is located at 345  m , five kilometers north-northeast of L'Isle-sur-le-Doubs and about 14 kilometers west of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends in a valley widening in the hilly landscape north of the Doubstal , northeast of the Mont de Bellevoie.

The area of the 1.97 km² municipal area covers a section of the hilly landscape north of the Doube valley. The central part of the area is occupied by a flat valley basin that is around one kilometer wide. Valleys flow into this valley widening from different sides, but they have no above-ground flowing water because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. To the south the area extends to the heights of the Mont de Bellevoie (up to 420 m), to the northeast to the edge of the high plateau of Bretigney. The highest elevation of Faimbe is reached here at 430 m. The whole area shows a loose structure of arable and meadow land as well as forest.

Neighboring communities of Faimbe are Onans in the west and north, Bretigney and Beutal in the east and Médière in the south.

history

In the Middle Ages, Faimbe was part of the Granges rule, which came under the sovereignty of the Counts of Montbéliard in the 14th century. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

With 107 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Faimbe is one of the smallest communities in the Doubs department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range between 40 and 70 people, a significant increase in population has been recorded since the beginning of the 1980s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Faimbe was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) well into the 20th century. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is close to the main road N83 that runs from Besançon to Belfort . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around 13 kilometers away. Other road connections exist with Onans, Longevelle-sur-Doubs and Bretigney.
