Rosières-sur-Barbèche is a French municipality with 122 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Rosières-sur-Barbèche is at 540 m , eleven kilometers southwest of Pont-de-Roide-Vermondans and about 24 kilometers south-southwest of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , on a plateau south of the Barbèche, above the valley of the Ruisseau du Moulin, at the northern foot of the Mont du Fonteny.
The area of the 5.31 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is taken up by the Rosières plateau, which averages 540 m. This area is mostly made up of arable and meadow land. It is bordered in the west by the valley of the Ruisseau du Moulin and in the east by another side stream of the Barbèche. In the north it descends with a 50 m high steep step to the valley of the Barbèche. To the south, the municipal area extends over a wooded slope up to the height of Mont de Fonteny, where the highest point of Rosières-sur-Barbèche is reached at 790 m.
Neighboring municipalities of Rosières-sur-Barbèche are Valonne in the north, Péseux in the east, Froidevaux , La Grange and Provenchère in the south and Vernois-lès-Belvoir in the west.
history
In the Middle Ages, Rosières first belonged to the dominion of Belvoir and then to that of Châtillon-sous-Maîche. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. To avoid confusion with other communities of the same name, Rosières was officially renamed Rosières-sur-Barbèche in 1923.

With 122 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Rosières-sur-Barbèche is one of the smallest communities in the Doubs department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range between 130 and 155 people, a continuous population decline has been recorded since the beginning of the 1980s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Rosières-sur-Barbèche was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). In addition, there are now some local small businesses, including one that produces animal feed. Many workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is located away from the larger thoroughfares. The main access is from the departmental road that leads from Noirefontaine through the Barbèche valley to Sancey-le-Grand. Other road connections exist with Provenchère, Péseux and Vernois-lès-Belvoir.
