Mairie Dambenois

Dambenois is a French municipality with 754 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Dambenois is 335  m above sea level, about seven kilometers northeast of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends to the northeast of the Montbéliard basin, on the eastern edge of the wide valley of the Savoureuse , at the foot of the heights of the Bois du Fahy.

The area of the 3.28 km² municipality covers a section of the gently undulating landscape in the area of the Burgundian Gate (Trouée de Belfort). The western part of the area is occupied by the approximately 1.5 km wide valley plain of the Savoureuse, which averages 325 m. The community floor does not extend to the river, but it includes several lakes that were created by the filling of former sand and gravel pits and today serve as a water sports center and local recreation area of Montbéliard and Belfort. The Canal de la Haute-Saône , which is connected with the Rhine-Rhône Canal, runs west of the village .

From the valley level, the community area extends eastward over a 30 m high slope to the adjacent hills, which are subdivided by various hollows of side valleys of the Savoureuse. The area consists mainly of arable and meadow land. To the northeast, the communal soil extends into the wooded area of the Bois du Fahy , where the Dambenois peak is reached at 427 m.

Neighboring communities of Dambenois are Trévenans and Bourogne in the north, Allenjoie in the east, Brognard in the south and Nommay in the west.

history

Coat of arms of those Forstner zu Dambenoy / Dambenois

The place name is derived from Dominus Benedictus (Lord / Saint Benedict). Since the Middle Ages Dambenois has belonged to the domain of the Counts of Montbéliard. These handed over the rule of the village to Baron Christophe de Forstner in the middle of the 17th century (tombstone in the church). Today's municipal coat of arms corresponds, in a modified form, to the family coat of arms. With the annexation of the county of Montbéliard , the village finally came into French hands in 1793. Today Dambenois is part of the Pays de Montbéliard Agglomération municipal association .

Attractions

The Lutheran village church ( Temple luthérien ) of Dambenois was built at the end of the 17th century. Renewed in 1748, it is one of the twenty churches that were rebuilt or renovated on behalf of Duke Karl Eugen during his long reign.

With 754 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Dambenois is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range between 100 and 150 people, a striking population growth has been recorded since the beginning of the 1970s. Since then, the number of inhabitants has more than tripled.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Dambenois was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many employed people are therefore commuters who work in the agglomerations of Montbéliard and Belfort. The lakes in the Savoureuse Valley serve as a leisure, amusement and water sports park.

The village is off the main thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Châtenois-les-Forges to Brognard. The nearest connection to the A36 motorway , which crosses the municipality, is about three kilometers away. Other road connections exist with Nommay and Allenjoie.
