The area of the 1.86 km² municipality covers a section of the basin of Montbéliard on the southern edge of the Burgundian Gate (Trouée de Belfort). Neighboring communities of Taillecourt are Étupes in the north and east, Audincourt in the south and Exincourt in the west.

history

Taillecourt is first mentioned in writing in 1145 in a document from Archbishop Humbert of Besançon under the name Thallicort . Over time, the spelling changed via Tylcort (1150) and Tayllecourt (1223) to the current name. Since the Middle Ages, Taillecourt belonged to the domain of the Counts of Montbéliard. With the annexation of the county of Württemberg-Mömpelgard (Montbéliard) , the village finally came into French hands in 1793. In the 19th century iron ore was mined here, which was processed in the Audincourt ironworks. Today Taillecourt is part of the Pays de Montbéliard Agglomération municipal association .

During the 20th century, the population increased continuously until 1982 (1901 only 162 people were counted). This was followed by a decrease of 12% until 1990. Since then, there has been another significant population growth. Today the settlement area of Taillecourt has grown together almost completely with those of Exincourt and Audincourt.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until the first half of the 20th century, Taillecourt was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). In addition, there are now various local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community in the Montbéliard agglomeration. Many workers are therefore commuters who go to work in neighboring towns and cities.

The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is on the main road N437, which leads from Belfort via Sochaux to Audincourt. The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around two kilometers away. Another road connection is with Étupes. Taillecourt is connected to the city of Montbéliard and the surrounding communities by a bus route.
