Les Plains-et-Grands-Essarts is a French municipality with 219 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Les Plains-et-Grands-Essarts is located at 748 m , nine kilometers northeast of Maîche and about 24 kilometers south-southeast of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , in the northeast of the Maîche plateau, in a wide basin at the northern foot of the Verbois heights.
The area of the 10.35 km² municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the low relief basin of Les Plains, which averages 750 m. It consists mainly of meadow and pasture land and is bordered in the west by the gorge-like incision of a dry valley , which topographically belongs to the catchment area of the Charbonney brook . The plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. The basin is flanked in the north by the Les Vérailles hill ( 814 m ). This is followed in the northwest by the valley basin of Trémeux (also in the Charbonney catchment area) and the Queue de Veau ( 864 m ) ridge , which separates the high plateau from the northern section of the Doubs . To the south, the municipality extends to the wooded height of the Verbois ( 939 m ) and the ridge of Montsassier , on which the highest point of Les Plains-et-Grands-Essarts is reached at 945 m. This ridge marks the transition from the basin of Les Plains to the southern section of the Doube valley.
Les Plains-et-Grands-Essarts includes the hamlet of Trémeux ( 715 m ) on the southern slope of the Queue de Veau and various farms. Neighboring municipalities of Les Plains-et-Grands-Essarts are Soulce-Cernay and Courtefontaine in the north, Indevillers in the east, Fessevillers and Trévillers in the south and Montandon in the west.
history
In the Middle Ages, Les Plains-et-Grands-Essarts belonged to the county of La Roche de Saint-Hippolyte. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.
