Mairie Feule |
Feule is a French municipality with 180 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Doubs department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Feule is located at 492 m , five kilometers southwest of Pont-de-Roide-Vermondans and about 19 kilometers south-southwest of the city of Montbéliard (beeline). The village extends in the Jura , at the southern foot of the Lomont range , on a terrace above the Barbèche valley.
The area of the 3.76 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The central part of the area is taken up by the Feule terrace, which is on average 500 m. It drops steeply to the south to the deeply cut valley of the Barbèche (left tributary of the Doubs ). The steep slopes of the valley are criss-crossed by ledges in various places. Part of the Barbèche forms the southern municipal boundary, partly the southern slope of the valley (in the area of Grand Montvallon) belongs to Feule. To the north, the community area extends over a steep, wooded slope to the ridge of the Lomont chain in the area of Mont Solemont, where the highest elevation of Feule is reached at 813 m. From a geological and tectonic point of view, this ridge forms an anticline of the Jura folds and is oriented in a west-east direction. To the east, the ridge drops with various rock crests and protrusions to the valley breakthrough of the Doubs, although the area does not reach down to the river.
Neuchâtel-Urtière in the north, Villars-sous-Dampjoux in the east, Dampjoux and Les Terres-de-Chaux in the south and Solemont in the west are neighboring municipalities of Feule .

With 180 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Feule is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range between 70 and 100 people, a significant population growth was recorded in the 1970s. Since then, the number of inhabitants has decreased slightly again.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Feule was predominantly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). In addition, there are now some local small businesses, including a joinery and carpentry. Many workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is located away from the larger thoroughfares. The main access is from Villars-sous-Dampjoux in the Doubstal. Another road connection exists with Solemont.
