Mairie Rémondans-Vaivre |
Rémondans-vaivre is a French municipality with 234 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Rémondans-Vaivre is located at 415 m , four kilometers west of Pont-de-Roide-Vermondans and about 16 kilometers south-southwest of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The double community extends in a valley widening of the Ranceuse, at the northern foot of the Lomont range in the northern French Jura .
The area of the 9.19 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is taken up by the valley basin of the Ranceuse, which has a width of around 1 km and a length of almost 3 km. The Ranceuse, which is fed by various short side streams, provides drainage to the east to the Doubs . Both in the north and in the south, the agriculturally used valley basin is surrounded by steep slopes, which are crowned at their upper edge in various places by a resilient band of limestone. In the north is the table Jura plateau of Goux-lès-Dambelin with the Bois du Fallot ( 544 m ) and in the far northeast is the height of the Grands Bois (up to 545 m). To the south, the community area extends over a densely wooded slope to the ridge of the Montagne du Lomont in the area of the Mont Solemont summit. From a geological and tectonic point of view, this forms an anticline of the Jura folds and is oriented towards west-east in accordance with the direction of strike of the mountains in the region. At 772 m, the highest point in Rémondans-Vaivre is reached on the ridge of the Lomont.
Rémondans-Vaivre consists of several districts, namely:
- Rémondans ( 415 m ) on the southern edge of the Ranceuse basin at the foot of the Lomont
- Vaivre ( 415 m ) on the southern edge of the Ranceuse basin at the foot of the Lomont
- Mauchamps ( 490 m ) on a ledge on the northern slope of the Ranceuse valley
Neighboring municipalities of Rémondans-Vaivre are Goux-lès-Dambelin and Écot in the north, Pont-de-Roide-Vermondans and Neuchâtel-Urtière in the east, Solemont in the south and Dambelin in the west.
history
Remains of a prehistoric settlement point indicate a very early settlement of the municipality of Rémondans-Vaivre. The Ranceuse valley was probably reclaimed and settled in the 7th or 8th century. In the Middle Ages, Rémondans and Vaivre belonged to the lordship of Neuchâtel. Together with Franche-Comté , both villages came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. In 1976 the two previously independent municipalities Rémondans and Vaivre were merged to form today's dual municipality.

With 234 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Rémondans-Vaivre is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range between 90 and 130 people, a significant increase in population was recorded, especially during the 1970s and 80s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Rémondans-Vaivre was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry until well into the 20th century. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In a commercial and industrial zone in the valley of the Ranceuse, clearly separated from the two villages, several wood processing companies (sawmill, carpentry, furniture production) and metal construction have settled. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area and in the Montbéliard agglomeration.
The village is off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Pont-de-Roide to Clerval . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around 15 kilometers away. Another road connection exists with Dambelin.
