Blâmont (German Blankenberg ) is a French commune with 1,072 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ).
geography
The municipality of Blâmont is located in the Vezouze valley , between Lunéville and Sarrebourg .
history
The place goes back to Roman origins. From 1545 to 1552 it was the residence of Christina of Denmark , who ruled the Duchy of Lorraine at the time and was then expelled by French troops who occupied the country until 1661. In the Thirty Years' War Blâmont was burned. Since 1766 the place belongs to France.
Until 2015, Blâmont was the eponymous capital of the canton of Blâmont, which was dissolved that year .
