history
Courcelles is first mentioned in a document in the 12th century. Since the Middle Ages, the village has belonged to the domain of the Counts of Montbéliard. As early as 1571, Eugène Episcopius founded the first paper mill on the Allan, which was later continued by Jacques Foillet. With the annexation of the county of Württemberg-Mömpelgard (Montbéliard) , Courcelles finally came into French hands in 1793. The real industrialization of Courcelles began with the establishment of a cotton mill in 1860. The factory employed up to 250 people, but had to cease operations in 1965. Today Courcelles-lès-Montbéliard belongs to the Pays de Montbéliard Agglomération .
