Allenjoie is a French municipality with 735 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It belongs to the municipal association Pays de Montbéliard Agglomération .

geography

Allenjoie is located at 330 m above sea level, about eight kilometers east-northeast of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends to the east of the Montbéliard basin, in a basin on the northern edge of the Allan , opposite Fesches-le-Châtel, at the southern foot of the heights of the Grand Bois.

The area of the 6.56 km² municipal area includes a section of the gently undulating landscape in the area of the Burgundian Gate (Trouée de Belfort). The southern part of the area is occupied by the approximately one kilometer wide valley floor of the Allan, which averages 325 m. The Allan flows in a wide arc through this flood plain, which is mainly used for agriculture, and forms the eastern and southern borders. The waterway of the Rhine-Rhône Canal is also located in the valley . The community area extends northward from the valley floor over a 30 m high slope to the adjacent limestone plateau (380 m). This is subdivided by various dry valleys : Combe de Bois , Combe de Baume and Combe Claude . The northern part of this plateau is covered by the vast forest area of the Grand Bois , where the highest point of Allenjoie is reached at 417 m.

The neighboring communities of Allenjoie are Dambenois and Bourogne in the north, Méziré in the east, Fesches-le-Châtel and Étupes in the south and Brognard in the west.

history

Various finds indicate that the municipality of Allenjoie was already settled in the Merovingian period. Allenjoie has belonged to the domain of the Counts of Montbéliard since the Middle Ages. With the annexation of the county of Württemberg-Mömpelgard (Montbéliard) , the village finally came into French hands in 1793.

population

With 735 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Allenjoie is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (in 1906 there were still 504 people), a marked increase in population was recorded from 1960 to 1975. Thereafter, a decline of 12% was registered until 1990 before the population increased again.

Attractions

The Lutheran village church ( Temple luthérien ) of Allenjoie was built from 1859 to 1860 according to plans by Jean Frédéric Fallot . Also worth seeing is the village fountain (Fontaine des Sirènes) from the mid-19th century.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Allenjoie was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the Montbéliard agglomeration.

The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Fesches-le-Châtel to Dambenois. The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around four kilometers away. Another road connection is with Brognard.
