Mairie La Grange |
La Grange is a French commune with a population of 94 (as at 1st January 2017) in the Doubs department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
La Grange is located at 705 m , six kilometers east of Sancey-le-Grand and about 27 kilometers south-southwest of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , on the high plateau of Belleherbe, which extends between the basin of Sancey (Vallon de Sancey) and the valley of Dessoubre , at the southern foot of Mont de Fonteny.
The area of the 6.16 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is taken up by the high plateau of Belleherbe, which is an average of 700 m and consists mainly of meadow land. The plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. The plateau is surrounded in the south, east and north by hills, which mark the municipal boundary. In the east, the municipality extends to the foothills of the Montaigu ( 800 m ), in the north on the ridge of the Mont de Fonteny , on which the highest elevation of La Grange is reached at 841 m.
The neighboring communities of La Grange are Rosières-sur-Barbèche in the north, Froidevaux in the east, Belleherbe in the south and Provenchère in the west.
history
In the Middle Ages, La Grange was part of the Belvoir domain . Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.
Attractions
The current village church of Saint-Sébastien was built from 1787 to 1795 in the classical style on the site of an earlier chapel. The Calvaire dates from 1835 .

With 94 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), La Grange is one of the smallest municipalities in the Doubs department. After the number of inhabitants had decreased markedly in the first half of the 20th century (214 people were still counted in 1881), only minor fluctuations have been recorded since the mid-1960s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, La Grange was predominantly a village characterized by agriculture (dairy farming and cattle breeding, arable farming). Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.
The village is located away from the larger thoroughfares. The main access is from the departmental road from Sancey-le-Grand to Maîche . Further road connections exist with Froidevaux and Belleherbe.
