Christian Casimir Brittinger (born April 30, 1795 in Friedberg ; † January 11, 1869 in Steyr ) was a German botanist , entomologist and ornithologist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Brittinger ".

He studied pharmacy at Schlägl Abbey and then became a pharmacist in Linz . There he also met the botanist Josef von Mor , with whom he explored the flora around Linz. Brittinger left Linz in 1818 for Vienna , where he studied higher pharmacy at the university. After completing his studies, he came to a pharmacy in Steyr in 1827, where he again examined the area. In addition to his direct correspondents, he also regularly sent plants from Upper Austria to botanists in Prague , Stuttgart , Leipzig and Strasbourg via barter societies. In 1855 he became a member of the Vienna-based exchange association and delivered over 1900 plants. In addition to his activity in the exchange association, he also enriched botany with some publications. In these he often described his travels and excursions.

In addition to several botanical associations and natural research societies, Brittinger also belonged to the Entomological Association of Stettin . Because he has also made a name for himself in entomology . That's how he described butterflies , dragonflies and beetles . But he did not stop at entomology either and later described birds .
