geography
Vellerot-lès-Belvoir is located at 610 m , seven kilometers north of Sancey-le-Grand and about 23 kilometers southwest of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , on a slightly elevated position at the southern foot of the Lomont range , on the northern edge of the basin of Sancey (Vallon de Sancey).
The area of the 6.04 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by the approximately two kilometer wide depression of Sancey, which averages 570 m. This area is mostly made up of arable and meadow land. In the south-east, the community soil extends to the foot of Mont de Belvoir. To the north the area extends over a relatively steep, wooded slope up to the ridge of the Lomont range. From a geological and tectonic point of view, this ridge forms an anticline of the Jura folds and is oriented in a west-east direction. Near the television tower, the highest point of Vellerot-lès-Belvoir is reached at 840 m. The western boundary of the municipality runs on the plateau des Bois de la Reuchotte (up to 660 m).
Neighboring communities of Vellerot-lès-Belvoir are Anteuil in the north, Vyt-lès-Belvoir in the east, Belvoir and Rahon in the south and Orve in the west.
history
In the Middle Ages, Vellerot belonged to the Passavant rule , which came under the sovereignty of the Counts of Montbéliard in the 14th century. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

Economy and Infrastructure

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from L'Isle-sur-le-Doubs to Sancey-le-Grand. Another road connection is with Vyt-lès-Belvoir.
