Raynans (dt earlier. Renach ) is a French municipality with 337 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Raynans is located at 363 m , about seven kilometers west-northwest of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends west of the basin of Montbéliard and north of the Doubstal , slightly elevated on the northern edge of the Rupt valley.
The area of the 4.03 km² municipal area comprises a section of the gently undulating landscape north of the Doube valley. The southern border mostly runs along the Rupt , which is dammed up here to form the Étangs des Princes (fish pond). From the brook, the community area extends northwards over the floodplain to the height of Raynans ( 403 m ) and to the northeast over the wide basin of a side valley of the Rupt to the plateau of the Grand Bois , on which the highest point of Raynans is reached at 425 m . While the valleys and slopes are predominantly made up of arable and meadow land, the heights show predominantly forest cover.
Neighboring municipalities of Raynans are Aibre and Laire in the north, Montbéliard in the east, Issans and Saint-Julien-lès-Montbéliard in the south and Échenans and Semondans in the west.
history
Since the Middle Ages Raynans belonged to the domain of the Counts of Montbéliard. With the annexation of the county of Württemberg-Mömpelgard (Montbéliard) , the village finally came into French hands in 1793. Today Raynans is a member of the Pays de Montbéliard Agglomération municipal association .
Attractions
In the town center there are some farmhouses in the characteristic style of the Pays de Montbéliard from the 18th and 19th centuries.

With 337 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Raynans is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range between 100 and 140 people, there has been a significant increase in population since the early 1970s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Raynans was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry until well into the 20th century. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the Montbéliard agglomeration.
The village is off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Héricourt to Sainte-Marie . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around ten kilometers away. Further road connections exist with Échenans, Aibre and Issans.
