The Feschotte rises in Creux de Malefosse south of the village and drains the basin northwards to the Allan . The basin is flanked by the forest area of the Grand Bois du Haut des Pierres (up to 402 meters) in the northeast and the forest heights of the Grandmont in the south. history

Badevel was first mentioned in a document in 1335 under its current name. Over time, the spelling changed from Fesches-Badevel (1340) and Badevelle (1494) to Badevel (since 1676). Since it was first mentioned, Badevel belonged to the Bélieu rule, with which it came to the Counts of Montbéliard in 1431. They introduced the Reformation in 1541 . When the Guisen invaded (1587/88) the village was plundered and set on fire. As early as the 16th century, the water power of the Feschotte was used to operate mills. In the 17th century, Badevel began mining iron ore, which was processed in the Audincourt ironworks . With the annexation of the county of Württemberg-Mömpelgard (Montbéliard) , the village finally came into French hands in 1793.

The industrialization of Badevel began at the beginning of the 19th century when Frédéric Japy founded the first watch factory in a former mill here in 1810. The Japy factory was the main employer in the village for a long time, until after the crisis of the 1920s and 30s watch production was relocated to the factory in neighboring Beaucourt and the production facility in Badevel was closed in 1935. Today Badevel is part of the Communauté d'Agglomération du Pays de Montbéliard .

Attractions

Lutheran Church

The Evangelical Lutheran Church ( Temple luthérien ) of Badevel was built in 1857 and has a remarkable organ that originally stood in the monastery church of Bellelay (Switzerland) and was bought by Frédéric Japy in 1798. With 817 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Badevel is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. Already in 1875 the village had around 1000 inhabitants. The previous high was recorded in 1896 at the time of the greatest prosperity of the Japy factory with more than 1200 people. This was followed by a continuous decrease in the number of inhabitants by more than 40% until 1936. Since then there have been various fluctuations, but only recently has there been significant population growth.

Economy and Infrastructure

As early as the beginning of the 19th century, Badevel developed into an industrial community. Today some small and medium-sized businesses, especially in the precision mechanics, metal construction and wood processing industries, are based in the municipality. There are also various retail shops for daily needs. Many workers are also commuters who work in the other municipalities of the Montbéliard agglomeration.

The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is on the main D463 road from Montbéliard to Delle . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around ten kilometers away. Further road connections exist with Beaucourt and Fesches-le-Châtel. Badevel is connected to the city of Montbéliard by a bus line.
