Méziré (German earlier Miserachs ) is a commune in the department Territoire de Belfort in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Méziré is 340 m above sea level, about nine kilometers east-northeast of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends in the plain of the Burgundian Gate , on the eastern edge of the basin of Montbéliard, on the edge of the Allan valley and on the western edge of the Bois de la Voivre plateau.

The area of the 3.91 km² municipal area comprises a section of the landscape in the area of the Burgundian Gate (Trouée de Belfort) with only weak relief. The western border runs along the Allan, which flows in a large arc through the valley to the west to the Doubs . This valley level is more than a kilometer wide. This also includes the waterway of the Rhine-Rhône Canal . From the course of the river, the municipal area extends eastward over the floodplain and the slope of Méziré to the extensive wooded area of the Bois de la Voivre , which occupies the northern edge of the Tabular Jura . The highest point of Méziré is reached here at 395 m.

The settlement of La Vacherie (340 m) on the southern edge of the village belongs to Méziré . Neighboring municipalities of Méziré are Bourogne in the north, Morvillars in the east, Badevel and Fesches-le-Châtel in the south and Allenjoie in the west.

history

Méziré was first mentioned in a document in 1317. In the middle of the 14th century, the village came under the sovereignty of the Habsburgs. It belonged to the Morvillars estate, which later belonged to the La Bassinière family. Together with the Sundgau , Méziré came to the French crown with the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. Industrialization began at the end of the 17th century. The noble La Bassinière family founded a forge and wire drawing shop on the Allaine in what is now the border area between Méziré and Morvillars, which later became the property of the Viellard and Migeon families. Since 1793 Méziré belonged to the department of Haut-Rhin , but remained in 1871 as part of the Territoire de Belfort in contrast to the rest of Alsace with France. Méziré was connected to the French railway network in 1868 when the Montbéliard-Morvillars line was opened. Since 2000, Méziré was initially part of the Communauté d'Agglomération Belfortaine , which was merged into the Communauté d'agglomération Grand Belfort in 2017 .

After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1219 people were counted in 1911), population growth was recorded from 1960 to 1980 and again from the 1990s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Méziré developed into an industrial community early on. Larger industrial and commercial zones are located along the Allaine on the border with Morvillars. The Société VMC-Pêche (Viellard, Migeon et Compagnie), which specializes in the manufacture of fishhooks, emerged from the iron processing industry. There is also a food processing company and various small-scale businesses. Many workers are also commuters who work in the agglomerations of Belfort and Montbéliard.

The village is located off the main road connections on a departmental road that leads from Morvillars to Fesches-le-Châtel. The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around six kilometers away. The Montbéliard-Morvillars railway line has now been shut down. Méziré is connected to Montbéliard by a bus line.
