Vétrigne (German earlier Würteringen or Würtringen ) is a French commune in the department Territoire de Belfort in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Vétrigne is 372 m above sea level, about five kilometers north-northeast of the city of Belfort (as the crow flies). The village extends north of the Burgundian Gate , on the plateau south of the Forêt de Roppe below the Fort de Roppe in the foothills of the Vosges .
The area of the 2.46 km² municipality covers a section of the landscape in the northern area of the Burgundian Gate (Trouée de Belfort). The southern part of the area is taken up by the wide area at the foot of the Forêt de Roppe. This is drained by the Dorfbach from Denney to the southeast to the Autruche. It lies at an average of 370 m and is mostly covered with arable and meadow land. To the northwest, the community area extends over the wooded western slope of the Höhe with the Fort de Roppe to the Étang Rudolphe , whose drainage flows into the Savoureuse . At 472 m, the highest point in Vétrigne is reached below Fort de Roppe.
Neighboring communities of Vétrigne are Roppe in the northeast, Denney in the southeast, Offemont in the west and Éloie in the northwest.
history
Vétrigne is first mentioned in a document in 1347 under the German name Vintringen . Initially under the influence of the lords of Montbéliard, the village came under the sovereignty of the Habsburgs in the mid-14th century. It belonged to the lords of Belfort and Rougemont. Together with the Sundgau , Vétrigne came to the French crown with the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. Since 1793 the village has belonged to the Haut-Rhin department , but in 1871 it remained as part of the Territoire de Belfort, unlike the rest of Alsace, in France. In the first half of the 20th century, Vétrigne was connected to the French railway network by a railway line from Belfort to Rougemont-le-Château . Since 1973, Vétrigne was initially part of the Belfort agglomeration, which in 1999 became the Communauté d'Agglomération Belfortaine , which in turn became part of the Communauté d'agglomération Grand Belfort in 2017 .

With 638 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Vétrigne is one of the small communes of the Territoire de Belfort department. After the population in the first half of the 20th century was mostly in the range between 120 and 140 people, there has been strong population growth since the beginning of the 1970s. Since then the number of inhabitants has more than doubled.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Vétrigne was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are various small and medium-sized businesses today. In the meantime the village has turned into a residential community. Many workers are also commuters who work in the Belfort agglomeration.
The village is well developed in terms of traffic, but is located away from the thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Roppe to Offemont. The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around four kilometers away. Vétrigne is connected to the city of Belfort by a bus line.
