Mairie Urcerey |
Urcerey is a French commune in the department Territoire de Belfort in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Urcerey lies at 369 m above sea level, about five kilometers southwest of the city of Belfort (as the crow flies). The village extends in the area of the Burgundian Gate , in a wide hollow west of the valley level of the Douce (tributary of the Savoureuse ) at the eastern foot of the Bois du Mont .
The area of the 3.39 km² municipal area includes a section of the gently undulating landscape in the area of the Burgundian Gate (Trouée de Belfort). The central part of the area is crossed in a north-west-south-east direction by a valley basin that opens up to the broad valley plain of the Douce. It is used agriculturally as arable and meadow land. To the north of this valley basin, the communal soil extends to the ridge of the Côte (up to 440 m). To the west of the village rises the broad ridge of the Bois du Mont, which is predominantly wooded and on which Urcerey's highest peak is reached at 463 m.
Neighboring communities of Urcerey are Essert in the north, Bavilliers and Argiésans in the east, Banvillars in the south and Échenans and Buc in the west.
history
Urcerey was first mentioned in 1196 under the name Visceri . The name Urcerey has been handed down from 1347. At the time of its first mention, Urcerey was under the Bas-Rosemont dairy farm , which was part of the Rosemont domain . Initially under the influence of the lords of Montbéliard, Urcerey came under the sovereignty of the Habsburgs in the mid-14th century. Together with the Sundgau , the village came to the French crown with the Peace of Westphalia in 1648 . Since 1793 Urcerey has belonged to the Haut-Rhin department , but in 1871 it remained as part of the Territoire de Belfort, unlike the rest of Alsace, in France.

With 233 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Urcerey is one of the small communities in the Territoire de Belfort. After the population in the first half of the 20th century had always been in the range between 110 and 130 people, a strong population growth was recorded from 1968 to 1990. Since then, a slightly downward trend has been observed again.
Attractions
Urcerey has a lavoir from 1880. The old town center is characterized by various farmhouses in the traditional Franche-Comté style from the 18th and 19th centuries.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Urcerey was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime the village has turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the agglomerations of Belfort and Montbéliard .
The village is well developed in terms of traffic. The main access is from Bavilliers on the main road from Belfort to Héricourt . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around six kilometers away. Further road connections exist with Argiésans and Buc.
