Mairie Grosne

Grosne (German formerly Welsch Green ) is a French commune in the department Territoire de Belfort in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Grosne lies at 362 m above sea level, about 13 kilometers southeast of the city of Belfort (as the crow flies). The village extends in the plains of the Burgundian Gate , mainly on the gently sloping slope north of the Écrevisse brook.

The area of the 3.65 km² municipal area includes a section of the slightly undulating landscape in the area of the Burgundian Gate (Trouée de Belfort). The central part of the area is crossed in an east-west direction by the valley basin of the Écrevisse, which provides drainage over the Bourbeuse to the Allaine . This wide basin is flanked on both sides by a plateau that averages 375 m. It is mostly covered with arable and meadow land, but also shows some larger forest areas. In the valley of the Écrevisse and in the hollows of the plateau there are various ponds that were created for fish farming. To the south, the community area extends over the plateau into the Bois Lachat forest . Here, at 388 m, the highest point in Grosne is reached.

Neighboring communities of Grosne are Brebotte and Bretagne in the north, Vellescot in the east, Boron and Grandvillars in the south and Froidefontaine and Recouvrance in the west.

history

Grosne was first mentioned in writing in 1105 ( Grona ) in a document from the Froidefontaine priory. The first church probably existed as early as the 8th century. In the 12th century Grosne formed a parish that included numerous surrounding villages. From that time on, Grosne was part of the County of Ferrette . In the first half of the 14th century the village came under the sovereignty of the Habsburgs. Together with the Sundgau , Grosne came to the French crown with the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. Since 1793 the village has belonged to the Haut-Rhin department , but in 1871 it remained as part of the Territoire de Belfort, unlike the rest of Alsace, in France. Grosne was connected to the French railway network in 1913 by a railway line from Belfort to Réchésy . However, operations were discontinued in 1948.

Attractions

The current Saint-Paul church was built in the 18th century. In the center there are various houses from the 18th and 19th centuries in the traditional Sundgau style.

population

With 329 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) Grosne is one of the small communities in the Territoire de Belfort. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (224 people were counted in 1886), the population has continued to grow steadily since the mid-1970s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Grosne was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding), fish farming and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime the village has turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who go to work in the larger towns in the area and in the Belfort agglomeration.

The village is located away from the major road connections on a department road that leads from Belfort to Suarce. The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around 14 kilometers away. Further road connections exist with Boron and Brittany.
