Mairie Cunelières

Cunelières (German earlier spoon village ) is a French commune in the department Territoire de Belfort in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Cunelières is located 354 m above sea level, about ten kilometers east of the city of Belfort (as the crow flies). The village extends in the plains of the Burgundian Gate , slightly elevated on the western edge of the valley of the Ruisseau de Saint-Nicolas , opposite Foussemagne, on the south-eastern edge of the extensive Bois de Bessoncourt forest.

The area of the municipal area of 2.02 km² covers a section of the landscape in the area of the Burgundian Gate (Trouée de Belfort) with only weak relief. The eastern border mostly runs along the Ruisseau de Saint-Nicolas, which meanders through an almost one kilometer wide valley floor and provides drainage over the Bourbeuse to the Allaine . The community area extends from the river to the west to the adjacent plateau, which averages 360 m. It is partly covered with arable and meadow land, partly with forest. At 366 m, the highest point in Cunelières is reached on the edge of the Bois de Bessoncourt. In a valley to the west of the village there is a pond that was created for fish farming.

Neighboring communities of Cunelières are Foussemagne in the north, Montreux-Vieux in the east, Montreux-Château in the south and Petit-Croix in the west.

history

Cunelières was first mentioned in a document in the 15th century under the name Cournoillière . The names Kulmer (1458), Quenegliere (1468), Kunglier (1472), Künigleren (1509), Cinelier (1555) and Kunglieu (1662) followed. In the middle of the 14th century, the area of Cunelières came under the sovereignty of the Habsburgs and belonged to the dominion of Montreux . Together with the Sundgau , Cunelières came to the French crown with the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. Since 1793 the village has belonged to the Haut-Rhin department , but in 1871 it remained as part of the Territoire de Belfort, unlike the rest of Alsace, in France. Ecclesiastically, Cunelières belongs to Montreux-Château.

With 355 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), Cunelières is one of the small communities in the Territoire de Belfort department. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (149 people were still counted in 1906), a significant increase in population has been recorded since the beginning of the 1960s. Since then, the number of inhabitants has tripled.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Cunelières was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and fish farming. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime the village has turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who go to work in the larger towns in the area and in the Belfort agglomeration.

The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is located near the main road D419, which leads from Belfort to Altkirch . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around seven kilometers away. Further road connections exist with Foussemagne, Montreux-Château and Petit-Croix. The nearest train station on the Belfort - Mulhouse railway line is in Montreux-Château.
