Pinaka is an Indian multiple rocket launcher system that was developed by the Indian arms company DRDO in the 1980s . The vehicle is based on the Tatra 815 truck model .

description

The multiple launcher Pinaka can fire missiles up to a maximum range of around 42 kilometers. There are twelve launch tubes per vehicle. The entire system consists of three vehicles: the starter vehicle, a supply vehicle for reloading the launcher and the fire control vehicle. A battery consists of six rocket launch vehicles . The Pinaka can cover an area with an area of 1000 by 800 meters with fire and is intended as a supplement to the rocket launchers already existing in the Indian army , which have a range of less than 30 kilometers. In addition, at Rs 23 million, the system is by far the cheapest compared to foreign systems. The original plan was to introduce the Pinaka system into the Indian army as early as 1994, but this did not succeed due to several production problems. The development phase was not completed until 2000. In addition, the originally planned budget was exceeded by far. In 2006, 40 vehicles were finally ordered.
