Blussans is a French municipality with 194 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Blussans is located at 295  m , three kilometers southeast of L'Isle-sur-le-Doubs and about 17 kilometers southwest of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends on the southern edge of the wide valley low of the Doubs , on both sides of the Ruisseau des Combes, on the northern edge of the extreme ridges of the Jura .

The area of the 8.04 km² large municipal area includes a section of the Doubstal. The northern border runs along the Doubs, which flows here with several bends in a flat valley low about one kilometer wide and is accompanied by the waterway of the Rhine-Rhône Canal . From the course of the river, the community area extends southwards over the valley floodplain and a roughly 50 m high, steep slope to the adjacent plateau ( 350  m ). It includes the entire catchment area of the Ruisseau des Combes , which rises with several source streams in the forest area of the Bois de Miémont . At 482 m, the highest point of Blussans is reached in the hilly area at the north foot of the Lomont range.

The hamlet of La Grange ( 360  m ) in a hollow west of the Ruisseau des Combes belongs to Blussans . Neighboring communities of Blussans are La Prétière and Blussangeaux in the north, Saint-Maurice-Colombier , Sourans and Lanthenans in the east, Anteuil in the south and L'Isle-sur-le-Doubs in the west.

history

Blussans is first mentioned in 1136 under the name of Brucens , when the place came into the possession of the Lieucroissant monastery (near Mancenans ). Over time, the spelling changed via Blucens (1147), Blusseans (1326), Blossens (15th century), Bleussance (1547) and Bleussans to the current name, which was first handed down in 1542. In 1258 the abbot of Lieucroissant sold part of the area to the lords of Neuchâtel, which from then on belonged to the lordship of L'Isle-sur-le-Doubs. The other part was under the rule of Châtelot since 1282 and went with this in 1561 under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard. Today Blussans is part of the community association Deux Vallées Vertes .

Attractions

The Saint-Léger church was rebuilt in the 18th century. Only a few ruins have been preserved from a former mansion. The town center is characterized by various farmhouses in the characteristic Franche-Comté style from the 17th to 19th centuries.

With 194 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Blussans is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (237 people were still counted in 1891), population growth was recorded again during the 1960s and 70s. Since then, however, there has been another decline overall.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Blussans was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from L'Isle-sur-le-Doubs to Saint-Maurice-Colombier. The nearest connection to the A36 motorway , which crosses the municipality, is about six kilometers away. Further road connections exist with Rang and Sourans.
