Mairie Désandans

Désandans is a French municipality with 734 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Désandans is located at 380  m , about ten kilometers west-northwest of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends in the northern part of a plateau, which is embedded in the undulating landscape between the river valleys of Doubs in the south and Ognon in the north-west, east of the height of the Bois d'Arcey.

The area of the 5.47 km² municipal area comprises a section of the gently undulating landscape north of the Doube valley. The main part of the area is occupied by the Arcey plateau, which is on average 380 m and is slightly inclined to the east. It has a width of four kilometers and a length of about five kilometers and consists mainly of arable and meadow land. The entire area shows no surface watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil of the limestone plateaus. To the north-west, the municipality extends to the densely wooded ridge of the Bois d'Arcey , on which the highest point of Désandans is reached at 514 m.

Neighboring communities of Désandans are Chavanne and Le Vernoy in the north, Aibre , Semondans and Échenans in the east, Arcey in the south and Villers-sur-Saulnot in the west.

history

Finds of flint, arrowheads and remains of bones indicate a settlement of the municipality of Désandans in prehistoric times. Since the Middle Ages, Désandans belonged to the county of Württemberg-Mömpelgard (Montbéliard) . With the occupation of this county in 1793, the village finally came into French hands. Today Désandans is part of the Deux Vallées Vertes municipal association .

With 734 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Désandans is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (407 people were still counted in 1881), a significant increase in population has been recorded since the beginning of the 1960s. Since then the number of inhabitants has more than doubled.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Désandans was mainly a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). In addition, there are now a few local small businesses and various retail shops. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the Montbéliard agglomeration.

The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is on the main road N83, which leads from Besançon to Belfort . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around 15 kilometers away. Further road connections exist with Sainte-Marie and Échenans.
