Mairie Anteuil |
Anteuil is a French municipality with 652 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Anteuil is located at 453 m , about 23 kilometers southwest of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends on a plateau at the southern foot of the Côte d'Armont and north of the Lomont range , in the extreme northern mountain ranges of the Jura .
The area of the 24.29 km² municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The central part of the area is occupied by the Anteuil plateau, which is an average of 450 m, a width of almost three kilometers and a length of about four kilometers. It is mostly made up of arable and meadow land, but also shows some forest areas, especially in the west. Here the plateau gradually descends towards the Doubstal . The plateau is flanked in the north by the Côte d'Armont and in the south by the Lomont chain, over which the Col de la Ferrière ( 592 m ) passes into the Sancey basin. From a geological and tectonic point of view , both chains form anticlines , which are oriented in a west-east direction in accordance with the strike direction of the Jura in this region. At 840 m, the highest point in Anteuil is reached on the summit of Lomont.
To the east, the community area extends into the higher relief, tabular Jura- like northern foothills of the Montagne du Lomont with the Bois de Miémont , the heights of Bermont and the Tournedoz plateau. The eastern boundary runs above the steep drop to the Hyémondans basin. The entire area shows no surface watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil.
In addition to the actual village, Anteuil also includes several hamlets and individual farms, including:
- Glainans ( 475 m ) on the eastern edge of the Anteuil plateau
- Bermont ( 500 m ) at the northern foot of the Lomont range
- Tournedoz ( 575 m ) on a plateau at the northern foot of the Lomont range
Neighboring municipalities of Anteuil are Saint-Georges-Armont , Rang , L'Isle-sur-le-Doubs and Blussans in the north, Lanthenans and Hyémondans in the east, Vyt-lès-Belvoir , Vellerot-lès-Belvoir , Orve and Crosey-le- Grand in the south and Chaux-lès-Clerval and Pays de Clerval with Clerval in the west.
history
In the Middle Ages, the area around Anteuil belonged to the small dominion of Bermont, whose castle was built in the 13th century. The Lords of Bermont were vassals of the Lords of Neuchâtel. After the Bermont castle of troops of King Louis XI. was taken and devastated, it was rebuilt at the beginning of the 16th century. During the Thirty Years War the castle was destroyed again. Together with Franche-Comté, Anteuil came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. A change of area occurred in 1972 when the previously independent municipalities Glainans and Tournedoz merged with Anteuil.
Attractions
The Ascension Church in Anteuil was built in the 16th century in the Gothic style. The Tournedoz church dates from the 19th century. The country chapels Saint-Marc and Chapelle de Combe-Violat are also located in the municipality. The ruins of Bermont Castle have been preserved.

With 652 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Anteuil is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (791 people were still counted in 1886), population growth has been recorded again since the 1980s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Anteuil was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area. A notable industrial company is the automotive supplier Delfingen , which has its headquarters in Anteuil.
The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Clerval to Pont-de-Roide-Vermondans . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around five kilometers away. There are other road connections with L'Isle-sur-le-Doubs and Sancey-le-Grand .
