Mairie Dambelin

Dambelin is a French municipality with 495 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté . The congregation was called Mambelin from 1972 to 1995 after a congregation merger .

geography

Dambelin is located at 422  m , eight kilometers west of Pont-de-Roide-Vermondans and about 18 kilometers south-southwest of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends in a wide basin in the headwaters of the Ranceuse, at the northern foot of the Lomont range in the northern French Jura .

The area of the 12.43 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is taken up by the Dambelin basin, which has a width of around two kilometers and a length of almost three kilometers. It forms the headwaters of the Ranceuse , which ensures drainage to the east to the Doubs . The agriculturally used valley basin is surrounded on three sides by steep slopes, which are crowned at their upper edge in various places by a resilient band of limestone. In the north which is Tafeljura plateau of Goux-lès-Dambelin (up to 560 m), to the west passes a narrow, wooded crest which separates the basin from that of Hyémondans. A saddle ( 480  m ) leads west to the Hyémondans basin. To the south, the community area extends over a densely wooded slope to the ridge of the Montagne du Lomont. From a geological and tectonic point of view, this forms an anticline of the Jura folds and is oriented towards west-east in accordance with the direction of strike of the mountains in the region. At 815 m, the highest point of Dambelin is reached on the ridge of the Lomont.

Dambelin includes the hamlet of Mambouhans ( 460  m ) in the western part of the valley basin at the foot of the Lomont. Neighboring communities of Dambelin are Goux-lès-Dambelin in the north, Rémondans-Vaivre in the east, Solemont , Valonne and Vyt-lès-Belvoir in the south and Hyémondans in the west.

history

The Ranceuse valley was probably reclaimed and settled in the 7th or 8th century. In the Middle Ages, Dambelin belonged to the Neuchâtel rule. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. There was a change of area in 1972 when the municipalities of Dambelin and Mambouhans merged. The new municipality initially had the art name Mambelin , which was changed back to Dambelin by decree on November 6, 1995.

Attractions

Saint-Desle-et-Bénigne church

Today's single-nave Saint-Desle-et-Bénigne church with side chapels was rebuilt in 1726 on the site of a previous medieval building. It is richly decorated , including an 18th century altar and a statue of Saint-Jean-Baptiste (probably from the 15th century). In the old town center, various farmhouses in the characteristic style of Franche-Comté from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved.

With 495 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Dambelin is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (443 people were counted in 1886), population growth was recorded again, especially during the 1970s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Dambelin was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding) and forestry. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area and in the Montbéliard agglomeration.

The village is off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Pont-de-Roide to Clerval . The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around 15 kilometers away. There are other road connections with Goux-lès-Dambelin and Rémondans.
