Étrappe is a French municipality with 213 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Étrappe is located at 400 m , three kilometers north of L'Isle-sur-le-Doubs and about 17 kilometers west of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends on a slightly south-sloping plateau of the limestone plateaus north of the Doube valley .
The area of the 2.92 km² large municipal area includes a section north of the Doubstal. The central part of the area is occupied by the Étrappe plateau, which is an average of 410 m. It is inclined slightly to the south and is mostly composed of arable and meadow land. The entire area shows no surface watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. The plateau is subdivided by the cuts of two dry valleys , which open to the south to the Doubstal. To the west the border runs on the ridge of the Bois de la Côtotte ( 410 m ). To the north, the municipality extends up to the heights of Mont de Bellevoie ( 459 m ) and Mont du Bois des Roches , on which the highest elevation of Étrappe is reached at 463 m.
Neighboring municipalities of Étrappe are Onans in the north, Médière in the east, Appenans in the south and Mancenans and Geney in the west.
history
In the Middle Ages, Étrappe belonged to the domain of Grange, which came under the sovereignty of the Counts of Montbéliard in the 14th century. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Today, Étrappe is part of the Deux Vallées Vertes municipal association .
Attractions
Various farmhouses from the 17th and 18th centuries in the characteristic style of Franche-Comté have been preserved in the town center. The mill, which belonged to Les Trois Rois monastery (formerly Lieucroissant ; near Mancenans ), ceased operations in 1852.

With 213 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Étrappe is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (156 people were still counted in 1881), a continuous increase in population has been recorded since the beginning of the 1970s. Since then the number of inhabitants has almost tripled.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Étrappe was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.
The village is located away from the larger thoroughfares. The only access is from L'Isle-sur-le-Doubs. The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around ten kilometers away.
