Mairie Fessevillers |
Fessevillers is a French municipality with 158 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Fessevillers is located at 861 m , nine kilometers east-northeast of Maîche and about 27 kilometers south-southeast of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , in the northeast of the extensive high plateau of Maîche, on a saddle that leads to the deeply cut Doubstal .
The area of the 6.16 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The western part of the area is occupied by the high plateau of Maîche, which is an average of 800 m. It consists mainly of meadow and pasture land. The plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. To the east of this plateau is a hilly zone with the heights of Pré Malade (at 975 m, the highest elevation in Fessevillers), Prés Fuans ( 962 m ), Mont ( 916 m ) and Montsassier (up to 910 m). These hills, which are subdivided by various valleys, drop steeply to the east to the Doubstal. With a narrow strip, the community area extends down to the Doubs, which is cut like a canyon into the Jura plateau.
Fessevillers includes the hamlet of Le Plain ( 652 m ) on a terrace overlooking the Doubs and various individual farms. Neighboring municipalities of Fessevillers are Goumois , Urtière and Belfays in the south, Ferrières-le-Lac and Trévillers in the west, Les Plains-et-Grands-Essarts and Indevillers in the north and the Swiss municipality of Saignelégier in the east.
history
In the Middle Ages, Fessevillers belonged to the domain of Maîche. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.
Attractions
The Saint-Maurice church originally dates back to the 13th century ( Romanesque components), although the current building fabric mainly comes from a redesign in the 15th century in the Gothic style. The Voisard family donated the Sainte-Anne chapel in the hamlet of Le Plain in 1482. The lead glass windows created by Hubert Deininger were installed in this chapel in 2002 (a St. Anna window in the southern Gothic window arch, a tree of life window in the northern Romanesque arch, Bouquet du Clos du Doubs). Various farmhouses in the traditional style of the Haut-Doubs from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved in the town center.

With 158 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Fessevillers is one of the small communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (201 people were still counted in 1896), population growth has been recorded again since the beginning of the 1990s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Fessevillers was a village dominated by agriculture (cattle breeding and dairy farming) and forestry. Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.
The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Trévillers to Goumois. Another road connection is with Ferrières-le-Lac.
