Trévillers is a French municipality with 484 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Trévillers is located at 773  m , six kilometers northeast of Maîche and about 26 kilometers south of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , in the northeast of the extensive high plateau of Maîche, which is bordered by the deeply cut valley of the Doubs .

The area of the 10.74 km² municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the low relief high plateau of Maîche, which is on average at 800 m. It consists mainly of meadow and pasture land, but also shows some larger forest areas. The plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. To the northeast and north of the village, several dry valleys begin, which are topographically located in the catchment area of the Charbonney (short side stream of the Doubs). The two ponds Étangs du Bois du Roy are located in a valley east of Trévillers . To the east, the municipal area extends over the forests of Derrière Vernois and Sarmin ( 881  m ) to the height of Les Saussiers , at which the highest point of Trévillers is reached at 920 m.

The hamlet of Le Moulin ( 760  m ) on the plateau northeast of the village and various farms belong to Trévillers . Neighboring municipalities of Trévillers are Montandon and Les Plains-et-Grands-Essarts in the north, Fessevillers in the east, Ferrières-le-Lac and Damprichard in the south and Thiébouhans in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages, Trévillers was part of the county of La Roche de Saint-Hippolyte. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. The village received better transport connections in 1905 with the opening of the narrow-gauge railway (Le Tacot), which ran from Morteau via Maîche to Trévillers. However, the operation of this railway line ceased in 1952.

After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (538 people were still counted in 1881), population growth has been recorded again since the beginning of the 1980s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Trévillers was primarily a village characterized by agriculture (cattle breeding and dairy farming) and forestry. In addition, there are now a few small-scale businesses, mainly in wood processing and cheese production. Many workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.

The village is off the main thoroughfares on a departmental road that leads from Maîche to Goumois . Further road connections exist with Damprichard, Les Plains-et-Grands-Essarts and Montandon.
