Blussangeaux is a French commune with a population of 84 (as at 1st January 2017) in the Doubs department in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Blussangeaux is located at 295  m , three kilometers southeast of L'Isle-sur-le-Doubs and about 16 kilometers southwest of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends on the right (northern) bank of the Doubs , which here draws a large loop to the south, opposite Blussans on the northern edge of the extreme mountain ranges of the Jura .

The area of the 2.12 km² municipal area covers a section of the Doubstal. The southern and eastern border runs along the Doubs, which flows here in an approximately 1.5 km wide flat valley and is accompanied by the waterway of the Rhine-Rhône Canal . From the course of the river, the municipal area extends northwards over the valley floodplain to the Châtelot hill, which extends from the north into the Doubsbogen. At 336 m, the highest point of Blussangeaux is reached here.

The hamlet of Le Châtelot ( 300  m ) at the eastern foot of the hill of the same name in the Doubstal opposite Colombier-Châtelot belongs to Blussangeaux . Neighboring communities of Blussangeaux are Longevelle-sur-Doubs in the north, Saint-Maurice-Colombier in the east, Blussans in the south and La Prétière in the west.

history

The municipality of Blussangeaux was settled very early. Graves from the Iron Age , the remains of a Gallo-Roman settlement on the hill of Châtelot and a burial ground from the Merovingian period were discovered.

On the hill above the Doubs, the castle Châtelot was built in the 13th century, which later formed a small lordship under the suzerainty of the Lords of Neuchâtel . The sovereignty passed to the Counts of Montbéliard by purchase in 1561. With the Versailles Treaty of 1748, Blussangeaux came to France. Since the time of the French Revolution , Blussangeaux and Le Châtelot have formed a community. Today Blussangeaux is part of the community association Deux Vallées Vertes .

Attractions

Ruins, including a tower from the 13th century, have been preserved from the former Châtelot Castle. In the community there is a pulling hum ( Puits à balancier ) that is seldom found in eastern France .

With 84 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017), Blussangeaux is one of the smallest communities in the Doubs department. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (191 people were still counted in 1881), only slight fluctuations have been recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Blussangeaux was a village dominated by agriculture (arable farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding). Even today, the residents live mainly from their work in the first sector. Outside the primary sector there are few jobs in the village. Some workers are also commuters who work in the surrounding larger towns.

The village is located away from the larger thoroughfares. Road connections exist with La Prétière and Longevelle-sur-Doubs on the RN 463 (Montbéliard - L'Isle-sur-le-Doubs). The closest connection to the A36 motorway is around twelve kilometers away.
