Association for the preservation of the Bavarian pub culture

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Association for the Preservation of Bavarian Tavern Culture (VEBWK), based in Munich, has the purpose of the association to preserve Bavarian pub culture and thus numerous communication centers. Today every fourth municipality in Bavaria has no inn. The association allegedly wants to counteract excessive restrictions on personal freedom and represent the interests of both restaurateurs and guests vis-à-vis political decision-makers.

The goals of the association are: corrections to the current health protection law, no general smoking ban by the EU, liberalization of the silent days regulation, retention of the current blocking period, no alcohol sales bans, reduced VAT rate for the catering industry, practicable and affordable solutions for fire protection, no hygiene barometer.

founding

The association was founded on December 5th, 2007. It emerged from the working group for the preservation of village inns and pubs (AEDK) set up by Franz Bergmüller , Rudi Ostermeier, Heinrich Kohlhuber, Hans Eser and Hans Koller . The first chairman of the association was Franz Bergmüller, who still holds this office today.

On December 10, 2007, the VEBWK called for a protest against the then total smoking ban in Munich's Löwenbräukeller , which was attended by around 1500 Bavarian innkeepers and restaurant workers. The event met with widespread media coverage.

The association demands that one-room restaurants up to 75 m² be allowed to choose whether they are run as a smoking room, while larger restaurants are allowed to set up a separate smoking room.

Membership development

The association had around 10,000 members in February 2008 and over 70,000 members in April 2008. At that time it was the fastest growing club in Germany.

It owes this rapid growth mainly to the fact that in the Bavarian Health Protection Act, closed club events in public bars were exempt from the smoking ban. The operators therefore designated their bar as a club bar of the VEBWK. Membership in VEBWK was required from the guests, which cost 12 euros per year in order to have access to such a smoking club .

On June 1, 2008, around 500 participants came to a large VEBWK rally with the motto "Against smoking ban and curfew" on the Theresienwiese in Munich, where well-known politicians were invited to a panel discussion.

Popular initiative 2010

In view of the successful referendum "For real non-smoker protection!" And the referendum linked to it , the VEBWK founded the action alliance "Bavaria says no!" At the beginning of 2010 , which campaigned for the referendum to be rejected in a referendum. In addition to the VEBWK, alliance partners were industry associations from the catering trade, festival hosts, showmen, breweries and the tobacco industry. The Bavarian Party was the only party to join the alliance.

However, the Bavarian citizens opted for a strict smoking ban.

Bavarian regulars' table brother

The VEBWK has been awarding the “Bavarian Stammtischbruder” award every year since 2011. This campaign was launched to draw attention to the fact that taverns are dying out. The award should be given to a person, a group or a television program who has made a special contribution to the preservation of Bavarian pub culture. It can be a landlord who especially cultivates the regulars' table culture, that can be a home nurse, but also a member of the writing guild or even a TV show that is dedicated to the topic of taverns is just as good. All suggestions received will be reviewed by a jury, which will determine the winner from all submissions. The jury consists of representatives of the Association for the Preservation of Bavarian Wirtshauskultur e. V., the Dehoga Bayern, the Bavarian Brewers Association, the Association of Private Breweries and the GenußJournal.

Awarded in a festive setting, accompanied by great media interest and humorous honored by prominent laudators such as Hannes Burger, Christian Ude (former Mayor of Munich), Luise Kinseher, Markus Söder (Bavarian Finance Minister) and Barbara Stamm (President of the Bavarian State Parliament) always wins this award greater attention. Previous winners were the Eser family (Schloßgut Odelzhausen), Franz Zacher (Kirchenwirt, Kirchberg vorm Wald), the Schieder family (Landgasthof Schieder, Altfalter), the Michel family (Mahrsbräu Bamberg, Böhm family (Madenhäusle in Madenhausen) in 2016, said the former, who was to be the laudator Federal Minister Theo Waigel decided to take part in the award ceremony because of the AfD membership of the association chairman Bergmüller. Despite the political quarrels, the Mertingen community , represented by Mayor Albert Lohner (CSU) together with Franz Nosalski, the leaseholder of the old Mertingen brewery, accepted the award towards the hands of folk actress Gitti Walbrun.

Online portal

In the summer of 2015, the association launched the online portal www.wirtshausfreunde.de, as there are hardly any inns, bars and restaurants in some Bavarian towns. Every restaurateur can create a profile on www.wirtshausfreunde.de, every visitor can leave a comment about their visit to the inn. The new portal was warmly welcomed by the Bavarian State Secretary for Tourism, Franz Josef Pschierer, who promised to start marketing support for Bayern Tourismus Marketing GmbH: “www.wirtshausfreunde.de is an active contribution to supporting our landlords and the Bavarian pub culture in the face of tough competition. This means that it is now even easier to find exactly the inn you want across the country with a multitude of search options. […] I am proud of the more than 2,100 hosts who are already using the opportunities of digitization with VEBWK eV in an exemplary manner. This database is an important contribution to the future of our inn culture and thus to the identity of Bavaria as a tourist region. This tavern finder is one more good reason to go to the inn more often - and thus make a personal contribution to the preservation of Bavarian tavern culture! "

Using special search criteria, you can not only search for special specialties, restaurants nearby or at your holiday destination, but also for the preferred types of beer. Anyone can submit testimonials and reviews and thus rise from the status of tavern friend to tavern king. The innkeepers can also present their restaurant and come to the fore on the rating platform as the restaurant of the week.

A gastro real estate exchange and a brewery finder are also offered. In addition, you can also have the inns that serve the corresponding beer displayed.
