Blockhead (born Anthony "Tony" Simon ) is an American hip-hop - producer and electronic musician . He is under contract with the Ninja Tune label and also works with the hip-hop label Definitive Jux and Aesop Rock .

biography

Anthony Simon was born in Manhattan to New York sculptor Sidney Simon and social worker Renee Adrianc. Since 1997 he has been actively working as a musician. He has a brother and five half-siblings from his father's first marriage.

After first attempts as a hip-hop MC , he decided to work behind the scenes and started working as a producer. For this he used the sampler typical of hip-hop in connection with vinyl records . On the album Music by Cavelight , however, guest musicians such as bassist Damien Paris or Omega One also appear on the turntables . Its first official production appeared on an Aesop Rock release in 1999 . His first own album Music by Cavelight was released on March 24, 2004 by Ninja Tune .

Since 2013 he and rapper Illogic have formed the duo Illogic & Blockhead . So far there have been four releases under this project name, all through the Man Bites Dog Records label .
